Analogue is better!!!!
show user profile  Tozzy
Bought a DCR SR35e Sony Camcorder (30GB HDD, 40x optical zoom etc) last night for £320 RRP,

I was blown away by the quality:

Is this the future of digital camcorders?

No I'm talking about this is how it's recorded to the camcorder harddrive. Why do I have to deinterlace? It shouldn't even record like that. My old analogue one didn't do this. I just recorded it and it was fine.

These images are great!
I feel like I should be able to sway back and forth and watch a 3 frame animation of the bear in that first image attacking me.

Wooooo scary bear!!!!

You are shooting in an interlaced mode. That simple.
Change it to progressive if you want frames.

and all de-interlacing does is throw away half the frame data (every other field) and then interpolates it back to a yeah,...that will look crappy too.

nothing broken or wrong here.

the deinterlaced version looks how it#s supposed to be, but the quality still looks crap. Infact it's just like my old analogue one which took tapes, but I used to record with an archos to get it to the PC, but was limited to 320x240. I'm also annoyed at the way it records to a crappy MPEG2 format, rather than DIVX or something.

You gotta admit you can't beat analogue :(.

"hope you dont mind me posting a deinterlaced version. "

Nope not at all. I'm glad someone has actually shone some light on the subject.

I'm going to see if there are any other settings etc. There's got to be something. I only got the camcorder last night so maybe I was a little too quick to try it out lol.

Yeah seriously, you've done something wrong. A friend of mine recently used some random tiny little digital camera (I mean really small, don't know what brand/model) to shoot footage for a film, and to my sheer amazement it produced pretty high quality footage at 1920x1080 resolution! Technology's come so far...

I think it's one of the latest. I don't think it's old. Bought it from comet last night. I'm really sorry I didn't buy an analogue one of ebay and an archos recorder. I can't even put files back onto the camcorder HDD after editing because it doesn't seem like it's designed to do that. I've gotta put up with this crappy MPEG2 encoder too. I'm gonna try and get my money back. I'm not surprised it got 2 stars.

Either you're doing it wrong or you got ripped off. I recently bought a Canon HV20 for $750 and it does 1080p24 (as well as 60i) and looks absolutely beautiful. I mean, check this out. It captures motion excellently, it even does well in low-level light. I still can't get over the price.

I'm not doing anything wrong. I got rid of the scanlines, but when I play it back in WMP, I still get the scanlines and when I play in something else, the scanlines are gone. Ok I know that is a software issue, but my other videos were never like that. The motion is blurry and there is no workflow for editing the files. I tried Virtualdub MPEG2 plugin but it only imports mpgs and you have to save as AVI! I've got to spend another 50 quid on a memory stick duo cause the HDD is write protected meaning I can't put edited videos back onto the camcorder. I've spent the whole day fighting with this thing and what's worse I needed it for my holiday in 2 days time lol.

I take it you're kidding by that picture paradox. The thing about HD that's crap is they can't zoom in as much as cheaper models.

Bring back analogue photography! I'm really no happy bunny.
