American 3d max or UK 3d Max
show user profile  tommtomm
Hi there everyone,
I am about to open my own company after years of working for the man, and as budgets are very tight I wanted to ask.

USA or UK 3D Max licence.

I went to autodesk website usa and they are selling it for $3496 = £2,232.48 whilst the UK 3d max is selling for £3400,
That's a difference of £1170. Am I able to download 3D studio max from the us website and if i did would I be in any trouble doing so.... And really what the ****, the richest country in the world and yet they sell it at 30% less.

Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

I would guess there would be a tax implication of some sort for you.
Don't ya think if it was that easy and legal everyone would do it?

seem to recall that you need to buy a license for the country you're operating from in order for it to be legit.
they rip us off in the uk because they can.

we've balanced our budget dr jim - seems u guys are having a little trouble.

hint: raise taxes a little. it ain't the end of the world.

you see, the way this works is we have these things called credit ratings agencies.

they award rating based on the strength of your economy.

the uk is rated AAA by all the cr agencies. i.e. we r awesum.

u r not rated AAA.

yeah - there is some difficulty on the continent due to your banks selling us a bunch of dodgy derivatives. pls fix so it doesn't happen again. it's feked things right up.

edit: these all wise cr agencies rated the cr@p derivates u sold us as AAA so their opinion is worth fek all.

summary: it's all going a bit pete tong.

on top of that, the euro has problems as a result of overspending, etc in some regions - greece, italy, etc. sounds like they'll fix it by federalising the eurozone & underwriting the lot with eurobonds which seems the smart move.

bah. Is crap. It's all going to end due to solar storm soon anyway.....

Plus....isnt the UK sinking into the sea? I read that somewhere......

umm ok thanks guys..... I didn't really want to get into who's the one to blame game.
but i'm still pi** off, why are we in the UKgetting ripped off, the tax on $3496 can not be high enough to compare it with our shitty UK price.
How the hell does a start up company start up if you have to spend a fortune to start up......... i now go cry in the corner.

cheers guys

Dr. Jim. Sweden is doing just fine. The "european crisis" seems kind of misleading since it is mainly the Euro that is causing trouble for some countries. Sweden never accepted the euro.

the unit of currency is sweden is the meatball. euros don't taste so good but don't leave a residue in your pocket.

SM - Yeah,.....Sweden is pretty kickass actually,.....no denying that.

tommtomm - seriously? Starting a company takes money. It's called "startup capital". It is often either conjured by going into a high level of personal debt, or most all banks will lend as well assuming you can prove you are going to be a viable, profitable business.

edit: agree though. price diff sucks.

proving you'll be viable being the tricky bit, cause for that you need customers paying you money using the software you can't afford to pay for. catch 22.

personal debt is the way to go if you can get it. or some form of financing via one of the distributors.

or bank of mum & dad.

or just use blender/gimp to get started. (free)
