Where is Ambient Occlusion settings in Vray 1.5 RC3
show user profile  xandos
Hi, bit of a silly question here, sorry. I've had to use RC3 instead of RC4/5 or whatever it usually is that I use, and I need to find the ambient occlusion settings - however they aren't in the same place, I've dug through everything and trawled the net etc. however I just can't find it?

I'd appreciate it if one of you lovely gentlemen could put me out of my misery.

Many thanks.

Do you mean how do you do AO?

If so theres a couple of ways.

You can apply a global material, make it a vraylight and put a vray dirt into the appropriate slot and play with the settings.

Or someone mentioned on here not too long ago that you can have a render element where it uses a material, so again you could use the same material as above which would mean you wouldnt have to do a seperate render as such.

Ah, ok, that works.

I was thinking more about including it within the normal render - as there is an option to do this within GI settings in VRay, but this way should work too.

Thanks.

I cant remember if RC3 has vraydirt shader.. hmm,

but if it does.. you gotta add a pass in elements, add a vrayExtraTexture pass to the elements, and in the material slot, add vraydirt.

renders as a separate pass, and you can add it back over the top in post

I didnt realise there was an easier way but i've just found it now in the render settings.

Though i imagine having the control of doing it the other way may still be handy.

Yeah, I was using RC4 previously I think, hadn't done this the old way before, rather have it all in one click but I guess the other way is more flexible anyway. Thanks for the replies.
