Am I the only one who misses Max9 ?
show user profile  Zman
We just made a huge jump from Max 9 to Max 2013 (6 versions I believe).

I am just shocked ... at how many things now work SLOWER !
(not even gonna get into the bad logic of some of the menues that were moved around)
Im not sure if over the years they gradually made things worst over the versions so people got used to it but Im just not able to get used to this change... The Unwrap window for exmaple has became so heavy with such lags in feedback It is just impossible for me to do some actions I used to do easily on Max9 !

(without going into possible good new features that were added)
Am I the only one who feels That Max9 used to work much much better and faster ??

Apparently 14 has a faster viewport. Don't know about much else.

Yes, Max9 was pretty good. I had to jump to Max2012 for a work project and haven't felt the need to go any further.

Max 2013 is like Windows Vista. It works, but it's a pain in the ass, and the next one was far better.

Max 2.5, 4.5, 6, 9, 14. These have been my favourites.

I've heard that Softimage users are as pissed off as Max users with Autodesk's antics.

Autodesk are killing Max off. Confirmed.

Getting sick of waiting for "the next release", to be honest.

What worries me is the complete lack of any Max news at Siggraph. It feels like the product is winding down.

I 'read' it similar to Nik....and how I interpret things is not based 100% off this piece of news.

It is the culmination of 'information like this' (Naid to Maya) that keeps happening.
In the industry...other packages are getting much better development and covering ground fast from their respective developers. Gaining market share (maxon)....attracting more users...etc.

This is "undeniably" happening all around us. It is the state of the industry.
Autodesk...in the midst of all this...is not doing this for MAX. At all.
This is obvious. It is real. To turn a blind eye to this is unrealistic.

So in essence, to me...this is Autodesks way of confirming its intent with MAX. Sure...it may not actually remove MAX from its software offerings....but MAX will be killed not by Autodesk...but instead by the industry itself, the users...and the competitiion.
We will kill MAX. By leaving it...to go work with the features & support we want offered by other packages/developers....

My 2 cents.

3D Studio v1 for DOS...1988'ish to now. And here I am watching Maxon C4D demo's from Siggraph all day....

The recent 48-hour sale of MODO with 40% off had a HUGE success.
From the posts on their forums, it looks like most of the new users are coming from max.

The one thing I'm missing is maxscript and max's SDK. Coding in MODO just sucks big time.
Apart from that, I'm a much happier camper now :)

Well, Autodesk certainly aren't rushing to disagree with statements about the demise of Max.
