Aligning a spline to an uneven surface?
show user profile  Stianbl
I want to be able to make a spline in top-view, and make it turn and look natural.. And then let it "fall" to the ground and deform to fit the surface..

1. I got a tube/cable made of a editable spline.
2. I got a seabed/ground with terrain.
3. I then want to make the spline fit on the ground, without having to go in and move each vertex around to try and make it follow the shape of the seabed/ground..

Is there any easy (or easier than manual) way to do this?

Thanks =)

A quick way is to clone the part on which the spline is to fall on, use shape merge with the spline, convert to epoly, select the edges created by the shape merge and create a spline out of them, then delete the cloned part.

or use Itoo's free glue plugin http://www.itoosoft.com/freeplugins/glue.php

Have you tried using the conform or shapemerge compound objects ? You could shape merge, then extract the spline maybe ?

1) loop through and cast a ray down from each vertex to first intersection on the ground.
2) move each vertex to that location.
3) move your entire spline object up equal to the radius of your spline shape plus your thickness

Just a thought
