Been wanting to do some aviation models for some time but havent had enough modelling knowledge, not that i really do now but i know enough to make a decent effort i think. The intention is to keep at this model till its 100% done and hopefully produce some nice renders from it, and hopefully move on to do quite a few more.

Had to redo the top wing as the ribs didnt come out properly in the last one. They may be a tad too much in the latest version but the references vary quite a bit, on one you can hardly see any ribs, on another they are very pronounced. My guess is that with age the canvass starts to sag a bit. Though having looked at it quite a bit i dont know if its too much of a bad thing if they are a bit more pronounced as i want them to be noticeable insted of getting lost in the final render.

Next need to do the bottom wing and the supports between them.

Cheers, and yeah they were real handy, when doing the chassis i cut them out individually saving a lot of messing around.

Looks great Jock. I've been planning on modeling a Douglas Skyraider or an F-15 Eagle. Maybe I'll
join in the fun.

nice, but good luck too, getting it to look just right should be very hard, since the plane is wood cloth and rope.

Spent some time on it tonight though it didnt seem to progress much. Sorted the bottom wing and also tried to do some of the detail on the. May need to redo the details though as they arent quite right.

Nice! Can you tell me how you split the ailerons from the wing?

Sure, all i did was model thw wing as if it was one, then simply detached the aileron polys. Created new polys where the holes apeared between the wing and aileron, then chamfered the new edges by a real small amount so the meshmooth didnt muck them up too much, and that was it.

Update of where im at.

I'm a bit unsure of the amount of detail to do mind you. I seem to spend ages working on bits that you cant even make out. The final render will have a better resolution but even then i wonder if youll see them. Like the wire detail its proving tricky because of their orientation and its taking ages, having started from scratch several times, though at the same time i want aproper job done and not sutting corners.

Quick update having started on the engine. I'll only be modelling what you can see in the finished render so the bottom wont be modelled.

Cheers bud.

Latest updates with the engine in place albeit, it may need some scale and position tweeks yet. The proppeler also may need redone as its proving quite difficult.
