Affordable HD videocameras?
show user profile  Sir_Manfred
So I'm thinking I should get myself a fine ass camcorder to get some practicing done on FX and perhaps produce something.
And I am totally sick of low picture quality. Sound doesn't matter since I already have external equipment for that.
Preferable would be something that could shoot in 1080p and gives me proish quality raw footage.
I would also prefer the possibility to set exposure and whitebalance and such nonsense manually.

If no camcorders can live up to my demands, then maybe a Digital SLR with video-recording capabilities would suffice. As long as it is affordableish.

So throw me your recommendations, suggestions and wtfnots.

Hmmm... looking at the Nikon D7000... since I need a new SLR anyway. And already got two Nikon compatible lenses...

I have seen some footage from those SLR cameras and was really impressed. Also, i have a bit of experiance with cheap "HD" cameras, and while they DO have the HD resolution, the frames in their footage are always heavily compressed.

For example: this is screengrab of a paused movie coming from a contour hd camera (300€ pricerange). The resolution is HD, when the movie is playing is looks ok, but you can see there is alot of compression on it. The quality is adequate to shoot some films on holiday, which is what they are intended for.

A red Scarlet would be great if you can afford it...
