any advice on rendering speed?

I have a scene of about 1.1 million polygons. I found that using the BSP2 rendering method is much faster than any setting I put BSP 1 to. The scene renders about 1.5 hours per frame and I have roughly 1000 frames to render. It has to be in HD so the sampling should be min 1/4 and max 4 from what I understand. Any ideas? Anymore information I should provide?
I'm rendering everything in PNG format. Is there anyway I could get the scene to render maybe 15 minutes or 30 minutes per frame?

my computer is a pentium dual core 2.67 ghz
4 gigs of 3200 ddr2 ram
nvidia geforce 9800 gtx 812, I think. will check soon.
os is windows xp.

you should give more info about your scene and maybe a screen shot , how many lights are you using ? what materials are you using ,also how about GI or FG ? I would set the scene back to all its basic settings and turn things back on untill I found what was slowing things down.

to start I would look at you materials if they are not setup right they sure can kill your render time in MR,to test this put a standard material in the material override slot disable specular reflections and see how long it takes to render, if it improves your render time you know to look at the setting in your materials.

Right. I'm using arch and design materials as well as car paint. GI and FG are turned on though they are reading photon and final gather maps. So the rendering alone without calculating a lighting solution takes a long time.
I tried the material overide with a standard material, and the render time went all the way down to 10 minutes.

i've gotta say, your image is REALLY confusing me right now. no single part of it looks cg, it looks fake but not cg. that asphalt looks ungodly real except the grain is far too large, and the cars look real, but like toys not cars. basically, make your grain on the pavement smaller, this whole thing looks like a tiny model right now. which is sorta awesome.

So, when I do material override and place a standard material the rendering speed is at 10 minutes a frame which for me is amazing. When I place an arch and design material in the material override, it's about 15 or so which also isnt so bad. However, when I make the glosiness less than 1 and the glossy samples at 8, its back to being VERY slow.
I noticed also, that even when I have a final gather map and a photo map stored, that when I turn off the shadows to all my lights in the scene, that the rendering time does decrease by about 30%. Which is about 18 minutes in rendering time.
But that's with shadows off. Do we really even see shadows in this scene? It's a night scene obviously. The only lights I have are street lights that make the street the obvious color they are, so they must be on. The other lights or light acting objects are all the self illuminating materials meaning, taillights, headlights, buildings and billboards.
In this particular frame I don't even see shadows to be fair.
Any advice?
Also, why does this thread say that there were 30 replies, when there are clearly less than that.
