Bump maps are up and down. Black / white.
Normal maps contain the information for all angles of light.
A normal mapped surface will be affected by light much more "realistically" then bump maps. They are, sadly, the standard 'new' map nowadays.

Chaos, why "sadly"? The only negative about them is that they are a tad trickier to create.

I don't know. Normal "Mapes" must be new technology. Normal MAPS, however, are old hat. And if you want to KNOW the advantages of normal maps, they make a low surface mesh look like it's high detail.
You might take time to use correct spelling. It helps make you appear more professional.
