A question of art style...

As opposed to having a game where hard-surface technology looks like the clean/sterile/supersleek/2001 style:

......I was wondering what people might think about something more like Jack Kirby's art style in a game:

The superstylized/futuristic/tech stuff has been done to death, and shapes notwithstanding, I feel there's not much room left with that direction.
Organic lines and curves for tech offers at least some new ground to cover.

Thoughts?

New style is
Mixing ideologies with future , which is endless,.
Eg Catholic ideologies with technology : some weopons 1,cross grenade 2, bible programmed robots,

Another eg, insect ideology with future, :some gadget , insect goggles for 360 view, and so on..

Incidentally the "Catholic ideologies with technology" has been done really well by Games Workshop and Warhammer 40k with their "tech priests".

That Kirby stuff is definitely worth a little investigation, my first thought in the context of games was "how would you make anything stand out?" I mean if taken literally as is, and you plonk an important character/item in those "scenes" it just sort of becomes one with the rest. Maybe that's not a problem, but a lack of readability makes people pretty angry.

Slightly off-track in terms of your intended visuals, but I've got to give a lot of love to The Wolf Among Us, it's the 2d comic book style, beautifully translated into 3d.





So if you take the Kirby stuff as it stands now, you're left with a cool art style but a pretty confusing game, I mean the indie scene will still go batshit ballistic over it, but if you make it "easier to understand" then you'll actually have something enjoyable to play, and not just to look at.

3joez, building my own style is great. Done it countless times before. Jack Kirby's style is likely the base point for my venture.

Dave, in my design, only 1 order of being will use any technology. They'll be able to assign specific attributes to various primal shapes (hence the Kirby-esque design idea) and compile those various primal shapes into random/unique arrangements to arrive at objects with specific functions. Everything else in view for that player class is land/sky, so it'll likely be easy enough to read.

Moid, as in all things, I'm going to avoid religious direction for design. It's not part of this universe.
