That's pretty fascinating. I seriously was thinking, "WTF would rock of ages need CG for?"

I assume you used nuke. Is there a quick way to cut out backgrounds or did some poor sucker have to manually mask out each frame?

P.S. I'm actually half considering watching that film now. Partly to see Tom Cruise trying to act like a rocker, partly just out of curiosity to see how bad it actually is (or, on the off-off-chance, how good it is).

I just use photoshop - and hand my work over to the nuke artist most times. I only use nuke when I set up projections for comp-

I was the poor sucker that made some of those BG's :P

Thanks for the reply.

It was really nice work you did. Completely flawless. Did they provide the pics and say, "Do this, and this," or did they just give you some guidelines and see what you came up with?

On this one, I just came up with it - It was a quick gig. I've been on like five movies this year

Was wondering if you actually used reference shots or did some research to see what that boulevard looked like two decades ago. So was it all liberal interpretation or did you actually have to reference stuff?

Nice. You must have a room full of patience. :)

How big are these paintings for each shot, in pixels.

Hey Girish -

The size depends on shot. I usually do 2x or 3x resolution - Now adays, I'm doing around 8k - My photoshop files are around 5 gigs
