[WIP] Hi-Poly Pistol
show user profile  ChaosQuack
My hi poly skills and hard furface skills are lackluster. So I decided to remedy that!

I posted this in What you are working on, but wanted to make my own post as I'll have some questions in the future.

This is based on a concept by Keith Thompson. I will be emailing him to see if I can post his concept.

Low poly with no chamfers

First bit of chamfer / turbsmooth work.

.

Crits comments. I will get some more wires up later as I progress.

Thanks!

Thanks Markoid!

Update for the night. I love 5 sided polygons officially, saved me a headache or 6.

.

The hole in the chamber has smoothing issues, I'll deal with tomorrow.

All my chamfers seem to be very very tight, I think when I am done get all of them layed out I'll add varying thickness for interest.

Lots of work still to do, going slowly, learnin the ropes.

Looking great so far!
And I completely agree about the 5-sided polys.

Is the barrel rotating as it would be in a normal revolver? If so, how do the bullets come out?
Visible polies (beside the handle) on the cylinder and halfsphere just behind the barrel.
It's also weird how those 2 cylinders connect to the halsphere, it's not visible in his concept, but there probably should be a cut in the halsphere where those fit, especially for the smaller one since it can move. (don't cheat :P)

I love the concept, the guy has some great art on his site.
Modeling also looks pretty tight beside a few things

Markoid- Any visible polys would be because I haven't smoothed them yet!

Garp- Thanks

Seth- Thanks #2!

Horizon- I followed Keith's concept pretty strictly and with the proportions he had, this is a 1 chamber revolver. The size of the bullet and the barrel won't allow more then 1 to fit. I will most likely change this to make it more 'functional' but I don't mind it as a 1 chamber gun, gives it character.

Dammit you found me out horizon! I was hoping to avoid cutting into that half sphere, but now that you mention it, I might as well.

Again, any visible polies are present because I haven't smoothed them yet.

Thanks for the motivation guys!

Slowly but surely. Bottom left stuff in this picture aren't finished.

Still haven't decided what I will be doing with the chamber. Probably make it a 4 shooter.

That's got a lot of great touches Quak - nice character, very steampunky.

Thanks cloak, wish I could take credit for the style part of it. If you wanna check out the mind behind that go here.

Very nice. Love the look of it.
Great modeling as well

I feel the white part in the first post (don't remember what it's called), looks very thin compared to the gun.

Keep updating

Thanks inxa. I believe you are referring to the handle. I feel that it is about the correct size, but will have to see how it compares to a hand.

Still have lots of work left to do.
