"Un-smoothing" area
show user profile  Stw
Hey there, i am new to 3ds max.
I started m first model today, which is car. i applied a TurboSmooth modifier on the plane i was modeling, just so i could turn on when rendering a frame to see how it's looking, but then i accidentaly somehow applied the turbo smooth permanently to the plane (it disappeared from the stack) and i didn't notice it, so i kept on modeling. Then i noticed the turbo smooth wasn't on the stack anymore, so i added it again and kept on modeling. After a while a noticed half of my model was already smoothed and the other half was not. So my question is: Is there a way to "unsmooth" an area just so the model is uniform again? Right now my model is half smooth, so when i apply the turbo smooth to it, it gets twice as smooth which doesn't look good.

no there isnt a way to unsmooth that stuff- easily/cleanly. you have turned the plane into an edit poly at some point which has merged the turbo smooth and the plane together into one object.

F1 is your friend =)

well if its only one half of the model that's smoothed, delete that half and apply a symmetry modifier to the unsmooth half to the get the other half back

For future bad experiences, there's an auto-backup function. Look in the autoback folder. By default max saves your current scene there every 5 minutes and keeps the last 3 saves.
