60D vs t4i
show user profile  9krausec
Which one? Been doing a bunch of research and they are both in my price range even though the 60D is 100 dollars more.

I feel that the t4i is sort of a gimmicky thing with the touch screen and that video autofocus (what I hear it works like poop).

and the 60D has better battery life, but is older and has the digic-4 cpu, but the firmware doesn't suck (which doesn't matter IF magic lantern decides to support the t4i after the first firware release which should be coming soon due to the t4i cameras apparently freezing a shit ton.. My primary concern is being able to shoot with a wider selection of ISO options to stick with multiples of 160 for noise performance in video).

insight? Want something for video primarily, but will be using it for real estate photography as well. I'm torn between build quality and a new piece of of tech... they both use the sameish sensors though which is sort of lame.

Cheers, I want to pick one or the other up this weekend... Too bad I can't just go out and get a mark III.

If you want photo quality over gimmicks, get the 60D.

Yeah, that's what I have decided on doing. Going to pick it up today. For real estate photography I really need magic lantern.

I shoot before and after shots for my client and ML allows you to do a half opacity overlay of previous images. That is SO nice when coming back for after shots to get your image aligned perfectly.

Also, just leaned ML has a time lapse function built right into it so I don't need to go get one of those clickers... I would wait for the 70D to come out, but I sort of need to get this camera soonish for work/school.

On top of the 60D I am also going to be investing in a 30mm 1.4 sigma, a nice tripod (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/243272-REG/Davis_Sanford_PROVISTA7518B_Provista_7518_Tripod_w_FM18.html
) and a fader ND...

Any recommendations on the Fader ND? I was looking at this...
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/839840-REG/Polaroid_PLFILFDND62_62mm_Neutral_Density_Fader.html

It's a cheaper one, but quality wise, is it going to be that much different than one costing 100 dollars?

There are 2 60D's apparently, the 60D and 60Da.

Differences:
60D has better battery life and it's more weather proof.

However, for video you need a fast processor and the 650D has the newer one. In my experience this can make a huge difference.

In some details the 60D wins it, but overall I think the 650D is just a bit newer. A kick-ass machine with some gimicks since it's still the XXD series.

About filters and stuff:
You need super high pro quality when you need the full 18 mp's blown out in your face. If you're not going to zoom into it like a mad man, and you use video, you can easily go for cheaper stuff from websites like dealextreme.com. Saves you heaps.

I say they're both good cams but the processor would do the trick for me. I own a 5D2, 550D and had a 7D as well. Oh and a 10D.

The 550D is an awesome camera and in quality equal to the 7D. However, the 7D didn't have buffer issue's with film where the single-processor 550D has, sometimes. It makes that much of a difference in these camera's.

Thanks for the reply StevegeK. Put in the order yesterday for the 60D and some equipment. Spent close to 2k on everything so I broke the bank a little bit.

What got me was the 60Ds battery life. After owning a t3i (sold that recently for a pretty good penny) I really am excited about having double the battery life.

Well, Cheers, I'll let you know how the filming goes. Going to be making a thread for a corporate media production I have to do for school. Everything will be shot with the 60D and a tokina 11-16 and a sigma 30mm.

Hope it turns out well, camera should be here by friday.

Just came in today (the 60D)! To be honest, I'm super excited for that electronic level. Other shits come in tomorrow.

Will slap magic lantern on it and start shooting this weekend :)

Thanks guys.

new gear came in. Waiting on the fader ND still (back order)..

Shot a quick and dirty test and I figured I'd post it. Some minor color correction (still a rookie)..

Built the slider though, which I think worked out well..
