The power went out while I was working on my Merc SLS AMG and when I started 3ds max back up again it said "File open failed". All my backup files do the same... Is there any way I could repair the .max file or is my work gone?

would imagine that's ferked. cheer up. could be worse, I had a hard drive die & lost 2.5 months work once. my own fault for not making regular backups of course. still, not the best day ever.

get a ups if you can afford it so that doesn't happen again.

Try the autoback files.

Try to merge the files, sometimes works.

You can also try maxback.bac or whatever it's called, rename with .max extension.

Shhhh. Keep that to yourself. If the files hear you, they might corrupt....

Hahaha. I can also remember, leaning on the cassette drive for my spectrum 128k whispering quiet prayers in the hope that the tape would load.. :)

LOL thanx I'm feelin better now that I passed my drivers license today, think I'll do a small city car like my Hyundai Atos for getting back in the mood :P

@9krausec Nope thank goodness it's not for a job and with just this project by modeling the bonnet, a piece of the front bumper and the side panel I learnt how to space my verts to decrease bumps and I learnt how to cut holes without affecting the shading when meshsmoothing :)

I remember I made this pretty slick project that was a fruit display.. Pretty early on in my 3ds Max venture and I stuck a lot of time into it..

Was almost done, when I formatted my hard drive and forgot to back it up... I was sooo pissed, but I just justified it in that way.
