3ds Max to "step" file for 3d Printing?
show user profile  zandernice
Hey guys.. I just did a google search, but didnt really find anything usefull -

Does anyone have experience converting a 3dsMax poly object into a step file for 3d printing? Is there a stand alone app or plugin, rather than getting something like solidworks? Whats the easiest workflow for this stuff?

cheers!

You should be exporting to .stl file. That is a universal file format for 3d printing. No problems doing it with max cause I've done it plenty.

I agree with the replies above. There is a .stl check modifier, which will check your mesh for any problematic geometry, like holes, overlapping edges etc. If it passes the STL check, then just export as STL file from Max, and it should be a perfectly fine "printable" object. There's no reason why you should need any outside application or plugin for this.
