3ds max render farm (deadline) (backburner)
show user profile  Nick_b
Hello all,

I'm just looking for some assistance with submitting render jobs in either deadline or backburner.

I installed and set up deadline. I have 3ds max installed on all my pc's. When I submit a job the slave Pc says received job and does some other script type things. The slave then hangs saying 'awaiting 3ds max connection' the job will not start. Deadline keeps going back to the same message.
I opened 3ds max on the slave but deadline keeps coming back to the same message.

I then decided to use backburner.
Installed backburner and connected to the server from the manager.
I created a simple scene in 3ds max and received a few warnings saying that some textures are missing. I clicked continue to ignore the missing textures then completed the scene.
When I submit the job to backburner the backburner server starts the job and then comes up with an error saying cannot find textures. There is no way to continue past these errors, the server keeps re trying but comes back with the same error.
Is there anyway of ignoring missing textures on a submitted job?

Thank you in advance for your replies

use backburner
make a max archive from your scene to collect all maps and make sure they are all sitting next to your scene file (just a precaution) and tick "include maps" in your network rendering window
should be a walk in the park from there
good luck

another tip so you don't have to archive:

by default you can set all your file references to using UNC paths instead of local paths.

Customize>preferences>Files> checkbox Convert file paths to UNC

Hi guys,

I've tried what you said but I'm a little unsure on how to submit an archive to backburner?

I keep getting errors saying 'missing dll' or 'missing texture'

Sorry for sounding like a noob, I just want to be able to set a render queue and leave it runnng over night.
