3ds max going slow
show user profile  drPHK

I'm a newbie. I started using 3ds Max 2008 last month and the program ran great on my system. I had to reformat my computer and when I went to download Max 2008, I saw Max 2009 was released so I downloaded that.

Max 2009 is very slow on my computer. My computer has had everything freshly installed so I don't know what could be causing it to lag so much.

An example of my problem is if I use the arch rotate tool, instead of it rotating in real time it takes 10 seconds to rotate, so its impossible for me to get my selections just right. Can anyone tell me what could be wrong?

if you download the software ( I am guessing illegaly) dont say it on here, its against the rules.

to your point. looks like you are missing some drivers. make sure all your drivers up to date. looks like your Graphics card is not installed properly. Viewport is rendered with the GFX card.

It's not illegal, I downloaded the demo from 3ds Max. I'm going to buy the full version for $400 through an academic discount I get.

How can I check to make sure my graphics card is not installed properly? I checked my device manager and everything looked alright.

google up your videocard and check if your drivers are up to date, if not download/install the new ones. or just downoad them anyway and possibly reinstall your current drivers.
