| 3DS Max 9 & Windows Vista |

Hi
I'm wondering if anyone has tried 3DS Max 9 on Windows Vista yet??
I'm in the forunate (or unforunate depending on how you look at it) position of having access to Windows Vista Ultimate/Enterprise/Business prior to release, directly from MS. I have set up a couple of systems now running Vista and had a play and now feel confident with it just as much as I do with XP, however I havent attempted to put Max on it yet. I have fresh installed my main system and I am considering installing Max but don't want to go and get the system messy if Max doesnt work with it!
If anyone has, is there any bugs, etc like there was with Max 4/5 with XP?
Thanks in advance
Buuurrp!

havn't tried it but why not set up a virtual and run it on that that why if it goes crazy you just delete the virtual image

why dont you just install it, and try it? if there is a problem, just uninstall it. You wont harm your system.
cheers nemo out

Trying to keep a cleanish image as it's going to be the Vista equivalent to a RIS deployment....don't want the hassle of cleaning things up as all software leaves registry ghosts/file ghosts which can and no doubt will cause issues in the future....then it's more mopping up for me!
Forgot about Virtual PC...good idea!

Remember when you installed a program in MS DOS? You don't want it anymore? Just erase the directory. Done. Gone. Finito. No fuss... no muss... :)

3Dsmax9 does not work in vista yet.
I've searched around, it seems like it worked in the early betas, but after a copuple of releases it did not work anymore..
One of the problems is the directx versions, vista has dx10, 3dsmax needs directx 9, so when you start it it wont find it.
i also tried to download all the files that it says it's missing when starting, but no luck.
i used vista ultimate to test on. With and without the fancy gfx.
A fix will probably get released as soon as vista has officially come out..

Err isn't one of the whole points of vista the advanced backup thing it does? on a fresh install it is supposed to only take like 6 minutes.

I've tried both 32bit and 64bit 3DS Max 9 on Vista but in the case of the 64bit, it would fail on installation and with the 32bit it would loadup but crash immediatly. I've done some searching and 3DS Max 9 is not compatible with Vista at the moment, but given that officially vista for the public isn't out till about nowish we can't really expect it to work right away.
I have been testing with the commerical version released end of Dec.

Nono, it works on Vista, 32 and 64 bit, simply set it to Compatability for XP SP2 and run as Administrator, you dont have to disable glass, BUT you will or might get an error about a DDS DLL, and it wont render the viewports correcty running under Hardware, so run it under Software or OpenGL. :)

Run as Administrator enabled is sufficient, there is no need to set Run as Win XP SP2. However, the error of DDS will remain. To run as Administrator: 1- Right click the exe file 2- Click Properties 3- select Compatibility tab 4- Check the Check box of Rus as Administrator
The program will run, but DDS issue will persist. If anyone has a solution for this please post.
