3ds max 2012 uv mapping
show user profile  Vpokunoff
Hey,

I have moved from 3ds max 2011 to 2012 and have a problem applying uv maps.

I have developed a workflow for myself in 2011 and it seems that it does not work in 2012.

Destination with baked materials is correct.
If I click update baked materials, it should work. But the only thing I get is black.

Have anybody else encountered this kind of problem?

Regards,
Toomas

Im not sure. I find this workflow to be the easiest. But I could use uvw unwrap as well.
But this does not solve my problem.

ok, well I notice you have enabled channel 3, try 'use existing channel' and see if that works.

Actually, I just unwrapped a teapot its not a bad little method you have here. Your not such a wally after all. Compare my settings maybe you will sort it out. (I think it might have to do with your baked material settings)

It is no help but thank you donevalla

This method works with 3ds max 2011 and with Vray 2.0.

After updating to 2012 ( I forgot to tell you that I use Design version)
with Vray 2.0 it does not work.

There is something wrong with my viewport ( That Is my guess). Have autodesk changed anything regarding viewport settings? Or could this be a probem of Vray?

I noticed that Im not able to see my baked textures on any of my older work.

Edit: I can make a video as well if it explains better. I really need help with this.

I just used your method in 3ds max 2013 (and 12), works just fine.

Show us your video maybe you have missed something.

edit: and yes the viewport has changed, but your working in shaded view so it should show correctly.

Dude, seriously, could you upload a larger resolution video. I cant even display that on both my monitors at the same time.

I have no idea what your trying to achieve here. If you just want the uvw unwrap, then use the settings I provided above. Your 'Baked Material' settings are still checked as 'Create New Baked - standard: blin' instead of 'Duplicate Source to Baked'.

Then click 'Unwrap Only' at the bottom and it should give you an auto unwrap. Then go to the material editor and apply your texture.

edit: out of curiosity, why are you unwrapping flat walls? Will box map in UVW Map not work for this?

Thank you for your time. The question is not about unwrapping. The questions is why my textures do not appear after baking.

Anyway, I will try to update to max 2013. Probably it is just a system error.

The thing is that I have developed specific workflow for unity and Im not going to use UVW map if I have couple of hundred apartments.

But thanks for trying to help.

Fair point. Have you tried display in direct 3d mode instead of the nitros engine?

Custimise > Preferences > Viewports > Driver

Holy crap. That was the problem.
I was working in direct 3D before in 2011.
Didn't know that this has changed.

Thanks a lot :) You saved me a lot of time. I couldn't thought of it myself.
