3DS MassFX - Ball Coaster Help
show user profile  Ultimately
Recently I've been hit with a project to do a Ball coaster thing. I seem to be able to make a ball, and tracks, but the ball never acts as it should. IT will go down slowly on a 40 degree ramp, while then go down fast on a 50 degree ramp down like idk 10m, then when I need it to do a loop, it will only go up like just lightly then fall back down.

Since i use 3DS max 2012 your gonna have to explain using MassFX, but if you cant and you know better in Reactor, you can. I have 2010 and older on my old computer.

A loop works for me fine in reactor when using really really low friction like 0.001 for the ball and rails. You may need to make the ball heavier than in real life too. Never used massfx so cant help there.

how did you make a loop which was smooth, my tracks are always uneven and stuff

I made it from a spline and turned up it's interpolation value then converted to editable poly.

Actually im curious on how you made it in general, makng a smooth thorough track confuses me. How did you make it curve smoothly and stuff. Also im using Phyx as my simulator.

I just drew it roughly from the slide then tweaked the bezier curves to make it circular, then shifted the verts over, then cloned it. Nothing special, simple spline control really.

You can probably create the loop with a helix, it's perfectly circular and it shifts over perfectly.

MassFX is really easy to set up, but you'll have to experiment with the shape of the track and properties of the ball to get it to loop.
