Hello again, long time no see. Long time no problems! Until now...
Okay, quick run down.
Scene consists of a single character (2000ish polys) with a Turbosmooth modifier over the top, works fine in viewport, if a little slow to update. Three bones with a skin modifier and some shapes to control it. Got a turbosmooth on top of that.
While editing, playing back animation etc 3DSMax works like a charm. But, go to render this character and Max freezes, thrashing the harddisk and not rendering anything, for anything up to half an hour before I Ctrl-Shift-Escape and kill it's thread. It seems to get stuck on "translating scene objects" or something similar.
I have disabled the render iterations on the turbosmooth and just gone with a high poly viewport view which is cool since I've done the animation and it all looks fine. But still Max won't render. I don't have memory issues (still only using aboot 380meg of 2gig). Things were fine two months ago when I built the character, I've reinstalled Max, tidied up Windows, screamed and shouted at the box, to no avail!
Any ideas?
