3ds max composite material/arch design/glass using mental ray - solid shadow

hi anyone,

i've created a glass bottle in 3ds max with a decal on it - i used a composite material so i could make the glass bottle with arch design and then assign another material for the decal. i'm rendering with mental ray. problem is, when i use the arch/design glass alone (no composite material), it displays a shadow that reflects the color of the bottle (green); but when i used the composite material, with a copy of the same arch/design glass, the shadow is no longer treated as if from glass, ie, it looks like it's from an opaque object. any thoughts? (nice thoughts only please.)

I just tried this with a multi-subobject material. Worked a treat.

I would probably try to model the label onto the bottle.
