3DS max 2012 saving Animation halfway Problem
show user profile  rlk7433
3DS Max 2012 save halfway through animation? Is there any way to save an animation in 3ds max 2012 in .avi format halfway through rendering, just in case my computer malfunctions or something?.....I keep trying to save but all I get is an .avi file that only plays 1 frame for 1 second. I already have the dialog box checked where it saves the file in the end AFTER fully rendering. Or can I Just cancel rendering and save from there? (and then render from frame stopped at till the end)

Never render to an .avi. Always render to image sequence, and then build your avi after it is finished. If Max crashes at any point, you will have all the images that rendered properly intact, then you only need to continue from that point on. I prefer to use .tga files but use what you like.

Well that will help in the future, but what about now? I've been rendering for some time now 50+hrs do I just hope and pray?

Unfortunately, I think you just hope (and pray if you like).

But next time you launch a render sequence, do what Tarkus said. :) Then you can laugh at max crash instead of raging. :D

[edit] oh and I wasn't implying that you raged but I probably would after 50 wasted hours. :)

Yeah, tis a lesson easily learnt. Never render to directly to .avi or any other video format. ALWAYS render each frame individually to .tga or .png or whatever.

I'm hoping...its at 110 hours and its due tommorow.. just 50 frames left. I was going to render to .png so I could import that into AE but I thought it would save time doing this. Well I'm learning from my mistake :/.

Yeah dude.......just let it ride!
Nothing you can do.

Lets hope there's no power outage,.....or brownout,....or an incoming Skype call or IM that crashes MAX....

And man....keep your pets away from the keyboard!
Do you have energy saving on in the bios?.....HD sleeping or other energy features can kill a render!
