Hey, I try to learn Maya, and there are some things that runs me to the wall. Add me on facebook please so I can spam you with my questions. Just search for: Szlákó Szilárd

My question are like:
1) Why extrude sucks, and my edges goes to every direction?
2) Is there an extrude in Maya that is same as in Max?
3) Why bridge always try to use subdivision level of 5?
4) Why I can't adjust the subdivision level of an object?
5) Why connect doesn't use UI like other tools does?
6) Why some tools remember my attributes while others doesn't?
7) Where are FLIP , LOOP , RING buttons?

I could spam this topic with tons of images comparing how things work in Max (thus what I expect) and how in Maya.... but I bet you know all this already, so please help me wrap my head around this.

haha, wow, i come back and there's a post title with me in it! ;)

2) I just got used to using the hotkey for extrude instead of holding shift, this has been a feature people wanted for a loooooong time but hasn't been delivered in any sensible way.

3) Bridge should remember its settings, I find the problem with bridge more on the part that it always twists (adjusting offset in history fixes this) and you can't bridge next to a polygon or you'll get the double edge, pain in the butt but once you get used to it you kinda get by.

5) I dunno, maya's personality?

7) Normal > reverse, is that what flip did?
LOOP and Ring are under Select/Convert selection>convert to edge ring or loop

The modeling toolkit created a bunch of new tools while Maya kept the old tools in the menu system, so now its confusing as they work a bit differently but do the same thing... its just all kinds of werid

Make no mistake, Maya is a pain in the butt to learn, lots of things that are wrong with it that the internet is up in arms to make a change but just doesn't happen, however seasoned maya users are usually okay with it, so i've been just accepting a lot of them.

@3Ddeath - Hey, thanks for the answers. Sooo was I mistaken and Modelling Toolkit isn't the best way to go?

Modeling toolkit would be nice if they finished it, currently its like a bad autodesk slap on feature...
If it wasn't missing half the features than you could use it 100%, but as it stands you'll find yourself using a mix of that and the old UI features.

Plus the Maya hotbox menu is quite nice, still trying to force myself to use it more, its def a strong feature of maya where as in max I didn't like using it.
