each "pixel" was made with a chamfer box
it was kind of the desired effect to make each box visible

I agree with Garp. The original character does not have lines in between each pixel, why would you need to see each box in this version?

Ah, well done then.
There are a few 'voxelize' scripts around. Not sure how good they are.

I though there may be a helpful script for this but I didn't really bother to search for one xP

using normal boxes with an edgetexture would propably work better for the styling you desire

textured edges, yup
This just stinks of max viewport lighting

Now let us see you animating it without loosing the aliased feel :P

Why not use the toon shader and tweak the settings?

Another approach : Flat shade (or 6 smoothing groups), add a little bit of spacing between the voxels & turn on shadows to get some edge definition.

The Gouraud shading across the cubes looks bad. Whatever you do, lose that.

I'll remake it tomorrow for practice.

I had a hell of a night... fixed some madly bad allocated space on my discs and messed up the windows boot. had to manually remake the boot file before restarting or I was going to lose everything. after doing it I restart and BOOM " missing BOOTMGR" I was all " Oh F*** "
but after 2 hours managed to fix it making a recovery disk from my laptop, rescuing the installation files form my desktop and then running the recovery.

after 4 hours of fixing my desktop .. I managed to do it. right now I'm just checking nothing was corrupted during all this. at least nothing important.

For future reference :

Recovery Shell from Windows install CD

Vista/7

bootrec /fixmbr
bootrec /fixboot
bootrec /rebuildbcd

XP

fixmbr
fixboot

or use a Linux boot recovery CD.

Max will probably whine because it stores registration info in the boot sector or mbr.
