2nd layer visible above 1st?
show user profile  thematrixiam
Hey again.

I have been looking at the 3d turtle tutorials, and just started the 3rd video, tutle_03a_upper.avi.

I have my reference layer all done, and frozen etc.

But when I go to add a cylinder it's not visible. largely, because I am trying to put it inside the reference box, and the reference box is blocking the view.

I noticed that in the video, this is not an issue. I can clearly see what is being created without the reference image getting in the way.

Is there a way to do what I am asking, to somehow allow 2 layers to take up the same space without one layer being blocked by the other - other than using opacity?

Changing the opacity of the references would work... but I noticed in the videos that's not what is happening.

Thanks in advance

Thats because you either havent flipped the normals of the reference box by adding a normal modifier (or selecting the faces and right click-->flip),
or if you have, and the reverse sides are black, then you need to go into the objects properties and turn 'backface cull' on.

This is explained on video 2 at 5mins 15secs

Wowzers... That also solved the images being darkened when the normals were flipped.

The problem was, the "backface cull" wasn't turned on.

Thanks a bunch
