Max 2015 - Change Default Preferences
show user profile  ccampbell
I installed 2015 and a bunch of preferences are now defaulted that previously did not exist or were set conversely - annoying to say the least. Anybody see this workspace b.s. yet...

Anyway There are a few things I would like to set as default when launching max that I cant seem to get to save:

1)"Display selected with edged faces". This makes it so any time an object is selectd wire's are visible, ALWAYS. This overrides the F4 toggle. As it stands must be unchecked each time i launch max.

2) Viewport gradients saved for all viewports except default perspective.... I work with solid BG not gradient. As it stands I have to change this each time i launch 3ds max.

Any Idea how I can save these default features?

edit: checked ini file - no luck

I *think* these are scene specific, so just set it up and save as maxstart in your docs/scenes folder.

As FX said, there's a "maxstart.max" file, just overwrite this with whatever you want your default max to be.

2) Viewport gradients saved for all viewports except default perspective.

I too hate gradient backgrounds, but if you're only disabling it from some check box (I forget where it is) then that information is a per-file thing. Meaning if someone else sends you a max file and they had gradients enabled, it would re-enable for you if you opened it.

What you want to do, is go to is go to Customize > Customize User Interface > Colours (Tab).

Viewports Element should be selected by default, if not just click the Elements dropdown and find Viewports.

Scroll down to Viewport Gradient Background Bottom, and Viewport Gradient Background Top. Change both of these colours to the same.

Why they had to split it into two categories is beyond me.

Awesome thanks for the help guys - updating the maxstart.max worked perfectly. Totally forgot you can set a default scene file I don't mind having to turn these settings off when I get files that have them enabled - I just don't want to do it every time i start a new project of my own.

Thanks again - you guy srock
