working on my first car at the moment. using the NURBS method after failing miserably with polies and boxes... ill upload some pics once im done with the Nurbs cage. im almost done :)

ill be looking for some advice and feedback as to how im doing and what i could improve/change. if anyone has some good tips lay them on me please! im finding this to be quite the learning experience as far as max modeling goes.

hell yeah i like soobies! almost done with cage people, its taking a lot longer than i thought it would... ill have it up in a few hours, i promise :)

one of the mistakes i've seen people make is having too much detail in the cage. Keep looking at your smoothed model and loose any edges that don't do anything. Looking forward to the pics

Good luck with the NURBS modelling, I've heard nothing but bad things about max NURBS.

thanks for the tutorial, but im using 3ds max 2010 and there is no surface modifier... tried surface mapper but that wasnt rite. do you know what the max 2010 equivalent of the surface modifier is? my impression was that i had to just shape polies over the cage following the contours but your method looks way easier!

ok i found out how to add surfaces to the curves using blend and the other tools, but most of my curves are arranged in such a way that the surfaces form awfully... i dont think thats gonna work. would it be feasable to just model over the cage, using the cage as a guideline for my polies?

Create a small plane somewhere (1x1 segments) and move it close to a spline. Convert to epoly.
Then shift-drag an edge along the spline. You need to have the cursor on the edge you want to drag and close enough to the vertex for the snap to work.

ok ive been working on the hood and got stuck on this part... the edges are supposed to be pretty sharp, so i chamfered just a tiny bit to leave a sharp edge after turbosmooth, but they are still really soft. here is my reference

The hood mesh looks great but it looks like you've got a lot of unnecessary edges on the fender.
The flow of the mesh around the wheel well should extend out from the center more.
You went from the wheel well mesh radiating out the the center to a straight up and down side to side mesh. And it doesn't flow.
Be the mesh.
Flow with the mesh.
