1963 Ferrari 250 GTO

Watched Top Gear today and saw this beauty. Instantly got inspired.

Please check my geometry in the wireframe render and tell me what I'm doing wrong because when I meshsmooth there always a imperfection somewhere. Especially when capping holes in a model.

just bad meshing... that's all.

a good start to getting a clean mesh is a lack of triangles. (though, it's not necessary to get to a clean mesh)

You have to keep your mesh simple, thus you can keep it clean. Get rid of the edges you don't need (ctrl + backspace removes selected edges AND the verices they come through). The wire looks too dense which is why it's hard to keep every vertex in it's proper place. And while building new geometry you should always consider that you don't need bunch of polygons on the flat surface.

Westcoast: impressive gallery. But hardly just by watching it you can learn poly modeling :)

Just saying that with awesome works like these you can give hell of an advise West.

Sorry mate, i thought you meant that i was having a bit of ago at him! :)

My wip thread is somewhere for the gto, i'll have a look!

Here it is...

But modelling isnt my strong point - there are much better modellers here than me i'd like to point out!!! :)

Thanx for the advise Sangre! I always thought I had to keep equal space between edges to have a nice result when meshsmoothing but looks like I'm wrong. Lol West my next one will probably be between a Nissan 350Z (I know every modeler on earth has modeled a 350Z but It's my favorite car apart from the Golf GTI!!) or a Lambo Mercièlago. Read your 250 GTO thread and that looks amazing... actually a bit demoralizing since I'm pretty sure I won't be able to achieve that :P

Oh wait you mean I'm building everything you built!? lol sorry it's just coincidence or we have the same interest in cars

Ok I tackled the wheels and want to know what u guys think of them? No updates on the bodywork so far though. Thinkin of building something else since my geometry is up to sh%t. over 1000 poly's on my body without chamfered edges!

Wheels that I'm pretty proud of since I've never modeled Rims before. oh and the tire I got off Turbosquid, that's a bit outta my league for now ^^

Tire thread looks a little too dense, but it's grate that you know how to build it with geometry!

Heh, he said he downloaded the tire. :)

Anyway, no reason why you couldn't do it yourself.

I will recommend you this tire tutorial by Daniel Buck,
