I have to agree, Joey. But now I hate you! Oh well, Grotey will sort them out. :)
Tip #102 bis (?)
A Gradient Ramp can do pretty much everything a Mix map does, PLUS a lot more! Add more flags as needed. Right-click the flags to access their properties and add your maps there. Set the Interpolation to Custom to edit that property independantly for each flag. Set the Gradient Type to Mapped and add your mask in the Source Map slot. Etc. And last but not least, Gradient Ramp has a nice set of Noise settings.

Cheers guys.
Well a big'ish update folks.
Once again one of my pages in getting too long and lumbering for just replies. The tips spread onto 4 separate replies in this thread so I decided to make a separate html page, just like the member gallery, faq pages .etc Click the link at the top to go to the page where they are all laid out in sections.
The categories are also accessible via the quick links down the left.
Enjoy.

couple of shortcuts as the left hand is usually hovering over the bottom left corner of the keyboard ctrl + alt + z zooms into the scene as a whole- so everything is in view z on it's own zooms in on the object you currently have selected ctrl + alt + z is the magnifying-glass manual zoom also works in the edit uvw window

Shift+C and Shift+L hides and unhides the icons for the Cameras and Lights respectively (but doesnt turn them off/deactivate them)- great when you have 70 odd lights and dont want them to be in the way of veiwing things

Max 2009 related.
customise your shortcut keys and point CTRL+H or just H to ‘Selection Floater’.
Not only will you be amazed by the simplistic design of the old school lister, but you may note that it can now stay open at all times and you can see your selections changing in real time!

just found this out... for colour matching from a website, in the colour selector you can use the eyedropper external from max, click and hold the eyedropper anywhere in max and drag it out to somewhere else on your screen, a website for example. i used to enter the colours RGB values but there is no need!

there was a thread about edges not looking selected when they were that isn't showing up on any searches so i'll post it here if an edge that's selected looks like it isn't or the edge is partially showing red but not all the way across the line you can convert to editable mesh and back to editable poly and it should be fine

To display an object in wireframe in a shaded viewport without applying a wire material, you can use some layer features.
First, create a new layer that will be used just for that and, while it's active, run the following in the listener: layermanager.current.display = #wireframe
Second, select the object(s) you want to see in wireframe, add it(them) to the layer and enter this: $.displayByLayer = true
Et voilà! When you're tired of it, you can always set the layer display property back to #viewport.
edit: Or select some objects and type: $.displayByLayer = false

K-tonne > That was me :D Cheers. I found turning off Hardware shading fixed it so it may be a different issue.

Since it's on the front page.
Right clicking on the undo arrow displays a history list.
Dunno if it's a general unknown or I just didn't know? Anyway thought I would share.
